Three Ways to Increase the Life of Your Transmission

April 14th, 2022 by

While things like tires and filters wear out relatively fast, the big Maserati parts – like the transmission – generally last a lot longer. Here are things you can do to not only extend the life of your transmission, but to help ensure it gives you the best performance.

Checking the Fluid

You should be checking all of the fluids in your car on a regular basis, and the transmission fluid is particularly important. It’s essential that it remains at the proper level, and you may need to top it off periodically.

Eventually it will need to be changed as well. Fresh transmission fluid is a clear red, and if it has become opaque, you need to change it. The same is true is if it has a bad odor.

Using the Right Fluid

In addition to checking the fluid, you have to make sure you’re using the right stuff. This means swapping out the regular fluid for synthetic fluid.

This type is much better at resisting heat, cold, and oxidation. You also have to be careful about the brand you use. A very low price may look good, but it’s almost certainly a low-quality fluid, which could hurt your transmission.

Getting Regular Service

The general recommendation with a transmission is that it should be serviced every two years or every 30,000 miles. In addition to giving it a close inspection, this involves draining out the old fluid and putting in new fluid and a new filter.

By following these tips, your transmission should be in fine shape, perhaps for the life of your vehicle. If it’s due for some maintenance or you just want to have it looked at, make an appointment with the service center at Helfman Maserati of Sugar Land.
